I regularly see complaints about Amelia Heinle's hair on Y&R. Some people seem to think they can get really nasty and personal about it.

Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) put a photo of Amelia flipping the double bird at the camera on Twitter as Amelia's response to people regarding her 'crazy-ass hair'.

On today's episode, Paul mentioned Ricky for the first time in...what? Forever? That's how I know Ricky will be a character soon.
I looked on my favourite Y&R forum at SoapCentral and sure enough, there's a NuRicky spoiler listed with info that states the new actor playing Ricky Williams will be Peter Porte, who's in his mid 20's (way too old to be Eva Longoria's son but hey...soapland, right?)

Jessica Collins is the actress that plays Avery Bailey Clark on the Y&R. The actress has already gotten my thumbs up. Ketchup on her steak? A disheveled mess some of the time? She seems a little more normal than many soap opera characters, doesn't she. But the big question?

What's Avery's Connection to Phyllis?
Sister? That's my guess. Phyllis has never talked about her family. Seems like a great potential storyline.

Y&R - Who Killed Diane Jenkins?

Who do you think killed Diane Jenkins?
I read two potential Diane murder theories today but have added my own ideas below.

1: Skye Lockhart.
Why? Harvard ring imprint and Adam Newman's mysterious phone call a few days before the murder that sounded like he was helping someone lay low. Skye went to Harvard and her body was never found. If it was her, the unravelling would get Sharon Newman out of jail (which we know is going to happen).

2: Patty Williams
Patty hated Diane, had plenty of people she's potentially love to frame, and if Paul found out the truth it'd create a famous soap-worthy unbearable moral dilemma.

I haven't posted in a while. There are so many things I could say about the Y&R right now but one thing I have to say is that I noticed some Y&R set recycling yeterday. I noticed that when Jana kidnapped Lucy & Delia Abbott, the little preschool they were in looked familiar. I recognized the curtains in the cupboards. The place is the house Jack Abbott rented to Lily,Daniel, and Devon.

Oops...Y&R would've fooled us all if they had've just changed those plaid curtains!!!!

What do you think of the show right now? Jana is sooooo written badly right now. They made us love her, hate her, love her, and now we're totally confused by her erratic behaviour! No one has mentioned lately that she killed Carmen Mesta. Wonder where Ryder is hiding?

Damn! I was so annoyed with the Canadian episode of Y&R with Sharon & Adam in New Orleans.
Can they really think that he's redeemable after all he put Sharon, Ashley, and everyone else through?
I was so annoyed I almost stopped watching.

Y&R week of January 11 -Is It Back?

I won't say that Y&R's writers have totally redeemed themselves due to some of the poor storylines in the last year (my husband stopped watching altogether and now rolls his eyes when he sees me still watching) but as I told my husband today, I think they're getting back on their game.

The show is bringing back some of the classic elements such as cliffhanger endings and multiple interesting plots at one time. I'm now looking forward to the show more than making fun of it. I hope the Y&R writers keep up the good work!

Dr Charles Taylor RIP - Do Sharon and Ashley Find out the Truth about Faith?

Knew Adam (affectionately known as Adumb on some Y&R forums) was going to do away with Dr. T. Now, the question is, how long before it's found out that Faith is really Sharon's baby and not Ashley's? As of the end of the episode on january 14 in Canada, Ashley and Sharon were discussing that September 30th both their babies were 'born' in the same sanitarium with Dr. Taylor in the building.

My guess: the switch will be blamed on Dr. Taylor and Adam will get off scott free. For now. Sharon, Nick, and Billy will continue to investigate. Poor Ashley. She'll assume her baby is 'out there' somewhere.

Tucker McCall - Kay's Son

This could change, of course, but as it stands today: Tucker is not only Kay's son but he's going to end up being part owner in that company he recommended Kay do a stock swap on during Canada's January 11, 2010 Y&R episode. He'll become majority shareholder in Chancellor's as a revenge plot to get back at Katherine for abandoning him as a baby.

Speaking of Tucker, the actor is being swapped out shortly. William Russ is being replaced by Stephen Nichols.

Darius McCrary: The New Malcolm Winters on Y&R

So, what do you think of the new Malcolm? He's nothing like Shemar Moore. When I first saw him, I knew I knew him but it took me a minute to figure out that he used to be on Family Matters as Eddie Winslow.

Darius isn't the first Family Matters star to grace the Y&R screen. Michelle Thomas, who played Steve Urkel's girlfriend Myra was on the show as character Callie Rogers Stark for a short time before she passed away due to Cancer at the young age of 30 and Callie's character did have a relationship with Malcolm Winters.

In the first scene in Lily's hospital room, I was impressed with the character. He wasn't at all like Shemar's portrayal of Malcolm but I think it has been enough years since the character has been on screen that Darius will get a good chance at building a fan base. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

A Hallowe'en episode full of the scary and the surprising. Here's a Y&R canada spoiler / recap of what were some of the memorable moments:

-Victoria slaps Billy Abbott
-Amber & Daniel get locked in Jimmy's bar after closing
-Nick, Phyllis, & Princess Summer Trick or Treat @ Sharon's door and Nick's jaw clenches as he sees that Adam is movin' in on Sharon
-Nikki gives Victor a new puppy as a gift before they leave for Brussels
-JT is waiting at the airport ready to move to NYC and Victoria and Reid join him at the last minute (awe. I guess it's a double mat leave. I wonder, are JT and / or Victoria coming back?)
-Billy, drunk, turns up at Chloe's doorstep and kisses her. Chance sees and leaves but then Chloe turns Billy away as she's not about to be a consolation prize.
-Ryder has memories that elude to his having done something terrible as a child (perhaps to another child on Halloween)

It's clear that this was taped before Eric Braeden re-signed with the show as it's left in such a way that Victor Newman may or may not return to Genoa City.

Up next: a love scene with Cane & Lily (the bald cap has returned) and Nick threatens Adam to stay away from Sharon.

Y&R Canada Friday October 2 Heart Transplant Spoilers

At the end of the episode, Colleen and Victor are being wheeled into the operating room together. It's a very touching scene with the Abbotts and the Newmans all watching. Jack gave Victor a speech when telling him he could have Colleen's heart.

Phyllis was told about Nick and Sharon's baby and was ultra supportive. Of course she was first upset to find out from Nikki that Nick rushed to Sharon at the sign of trouble with the baby rather than Jack. Nick set her straight.
Nice that we've gotten a break from the Amber/Deacon/Daniel storyline but I'm sure that'll be back in full swing next week, I'm sure...

September 28, 2009 Y&R Canada - Victor Newman / Colleen Carlton / Ashley and Sharon Spoiler

Nikki asked Traci if Victor could have Colleen's heart in the last minute or two. So the next episode will undoubtedly be all about Billy / Jack / Traci arguing about it. Undoubtedly they'll agree for Abby's sake. Blah Blah Blah.

Where's Olivia? Shouldn't she be around the hospital? And doesn't that mental hospital have ANY security whatsoever?

September 24, 2009 Y&R Canada - Victor Newman / Colleen Carlton Spoiler

Colleen has been looked at by two more top specialists and is confirmed as being in a permanent vegetative state. Traci must decide whether or not to pull the plug on life support and feeding tubes or to keep her in a long-term care facility. She's in denial until she needs to comfort Abby. Lily visits, despite Cane's urging her to stay away from hospital germs. Traci asks Lily what Colleen would want and Lily tells her that Colleen wouldn't want to be hooked up with machines.

Nick visits Sharon and she's having braxton hicks.

Ashley tells Jack she killed Nikki after she sees Nikki at the hospital and assumes she's a ghost that's haunting her. Jack takes Ashley to a mental hospital and she agrees to be signed in (Do you see an Ashley /Sharon baby switch drama in the near future? SOOOoooooo predictable!)

Victor needs a heart transplant or he'll die within a week. Gee...I'm shocked. The doctors begin to tell Traci that Colleen signed the donor card in her wallet. Shocker there!

Touching scenes today but really quite disappointed that many of the spoilers so many viewers are unhappy about are true.

Sept 21, 2009 Canadian Y&R Colleen Carlton

Colleen Carlton pronounced brain dead today. So far, Victor is doing ok but after reading other spoilers it has been said that Victor will need a heart transplant and Colleen will be the one to provide it. Adam seethes in Victor's room while he's unconscious that he didn't sell his soul the night of Ashley's accident to see him fade away --- that he has to be there for the grande finale.

Lots of tears today.

Other happenings throughout the show aren't worth blogging about except that the last moment of the show is set in a room where someone serves Nikki Newman a meal so obviously Ashley didn't run her over.

September 18, 2009 Y &R Canada Spoilers Colleen Carlton and Victor Newman

Does Colleen die? Does Victor get her heart?

Victor took 3 bullets. In the background, Ashley's ready to leave him due to finding out the truth. I almost busted a gut on my elliptical machine when Adam offered to make her some tea. "Don't even say Tea to me". Finally! I know we out in TVLand were all thinking the same thing. My mom always says "I'm floating" when she drinks too much tea. Surprised Ashley didn't float away by now! Of course Adam rushes Dr. Taylor over to try to talk her out of it. Ashley tells Adam to "Go make some friends." LOL .
Billy rushes in to tell them what's going on with Victor and Colleen.

Paul gets Patty to surrender and brings her to the precinct to Chance.

It ends with the doctor telling Traci, Steve, and Jack that Colleen may be brain dead and that they should prepare for the worst (a test is coming).

Next:
Next issue spoiler shows Jack and Ashley discussing what happened and Adam at Victor's bedside telling him he 'has to make it'.

Is Y&R's Colleen Dead?

I'm out of lurkdom for a moment to say that I'm beyond disgusted with today's Canadian episode (September 16, 2009) where they go through Colleen's life and leave us believing at the end that she's dead. I've read a spoiler saying that Patty shoots Victor and he gets Colleen's heart. I hope they don't do this. The last few spoilers I've read from that source were true though, so sigh.....

I created this blog when it was fun to make fun of the writing and silliness but lately, it's just beyond ridiculous. I miss the old Y&R where there was suspense and lovable characters. Sure, there will always be characters you don't like as villains have their place but the way this show has been going, it's no wonder they didn't grab any '09 Daytime Emmys (with the exception of Christian LeBlanc who's not getting nearly enough airtime these days!)

Oh, and don't even get me started on where they've gone with the gas-lighting Ashley and Sh/ick baby daddy storylines....

So, I caught up on 3 episodes of the Y&R in the last 24 hours and it has been a bit of a whirlwind.

-Phillip III reveals he's not dead
-Billy punches out Cane
-Katherine collapses and goes to hospital twice
-MaryJane reveals she's Patty Williams
-Phyllis is barred from being near Summer due to suspected Munchhausen by Proxy syndrome
-Nikki & Victor share some tender moments and apply for guardianship of Summer Newman

I hope I didn't miss anything---there was a lot to see.
Some of this was really hokey.
Cane explaining the Chloe dna mixup really didn't leave me satisfied. Phillip III (Thom Beirdz) explanation was plausible but the story rewrite still is out there in lala Soapland.

I am still really unimpressed with the Sharon /Nick paternity drama and how it's unfolding but the Chancellor storyline has my attention for the moment.

Y&R Canada Updates - Wk of June 22, 2009 - Please do something about these awful storylines!

I'm not a happy Y&R viewer. I haven't been happy in months. I don't want to turn this blog into an *I'm sick of the bad storylines on the Y&R* blog so I'm hoping that things turn around soon!

Adam and Rafe gay storyline:

The Adam and Rafe stuff is bothering me. Not so much because it's a gay storyline but because they're now making Rafe out weak. He seemed like a strong character and now he's just able to be shaken enough to eliminate suspiction by the mere idea that someone has a 'crush' on him? Please. How could anyone not see through that?

The new Adam Newman:

The new Adam is very different from the original (Chris Engen) Adam. The storyline is awful and I'm not shocked the original actor walked off set.

Summer's Coma

I'm really really really unimpressed with the Summer Newman coma. That Patty Williams / Mary Jane Benson is that heartless is sickening and a new low for the show. So, this is why they did the soras thing with the Summer character...

Sharon and Nick paternity thing:

My husband gave up watching 2 weeks ago because it got past the point of ridiculousness so I'm really hoping that because so many Y&R fans have been very verbal about our distaste for the writing lately that in the next few weeks we'll be seeing a difference (I don't know how far in advance they tape).

Sharon's character is not the sort who would lie about paternity so they're not being true to the character.

Broken baby head? Please! If Adam felt guilty about making her lose the baby, why on earth would he keep at this? It's ridiculous!

June 16, 2009 - Y+R Canada - What's with Newman's Ranch Security?

So, how much do you want to bet that the Summer Newman's new peanut allergy is going to create a new storyline? Will Sharon be responsible for a contamination and allergy alert? Will Mary Jane (aka Patty) do something in one of her psychotic meltdowns related to this? Hmmm..

Oh! I can't believe I forgot to publicly roll my eyes at Devon fantasizing about Tyra the other day. What is it with his incestuous fantasies? Does this mean he's not fantasizing about Lily any longer? Let's hope!

Phillip III / IV / Cane

The drama re: Phillip III and Phillip IV and Cane is bugging me. I can't see how this story could logically make sense. They're not about to make that famous psychic part of the scam are they? I'm sure that since she played herself, she wouldn't go for it. It makes NO sense!

Adam / Dr Taylor

I laughed the other day when Adam's laptop wouldn't turn off. People on the Soap City Forum all had suggestions like: close the lid! Pull the battery! DUH! No wonder the poor guy left the show...they're making a mockery of the previously smart / savvy / sarky Adam. Oh, if that doc Taylor knew him in university, why isn't he calling him "Vic" since that's the name he supposedly went by before moving to GC. hmmmm?

Estella / Rafe

That was a bizarre thing---that scene. What was in the box? Why did she have a key to the house? And the million dollar question....What's with Newman security????!?

Lost my Y+R Buddy

My husband, who watches with me every day has tuned out :( He's tired of the hoaky storylines, rewriting history, un-doing of DNA tests, etcetera. The Adam / Ashley story, in particular, really got on his nerves and the recent art drama with Victoria/Daniel/Jana, etc made him roll his eyes to no end.

So, here I am, watching alone, mourning my Muppet Show balcony style critiquing partner. As bad as it got, we were like those two guys that kept coming back to the Muppet Show. Well, now my partner has deserted me. Who will listen when I want to complain about inconsistencies or idiosyncrasies? :(

I've heard about others jumping ship and giving up. Some people are calling for the firing of certain Y&R writers. Some say this happens every once in a while and then it gets better. I'm hoping it gets better ASAP. Maybe my co-critic will come back.

Who Do You Want to be the Daddy of Sharon's Baby ?

Sharon's Baby's Daddy Spoilers / Spumors

I've been getting some traffic here with people wanting spoilers and speculation on who's going to be the daddy of Sharon's baby. Here are a few things I've heard around the online soap boards. I don't know if any are true!

-Sharon will be pregnant with twins and the twins will have two different fathers. This is supposedly possible because an egg can drop just after one is fertilized.

-Also read a rumour that one of the babies might not make it due to premature delivery

-Also read that around the time of the reveal of the paternity test, there will be some big things to come out (some are speculating whether or not Jack is the paternal father of Billy instead of his brother)

Again, these are all spumours so take them for what they're work.

The Adam / Ashley drama was just absolutely ridiculous. I can't even get started on that one and how it's wrong on so many levels!

Kevin / Jana & Amber / Daniel

Is it just me or do Kevin & Amber seem well-suited and Jana & Daniel seem well-suited. I wonder if they're going there with this show. The foursome does seem to be a perfect group of friends but I wouldn't be surprised if there's eventually a moment of passion between the wrong two!

Nikki / Victor

Nice moments from them talking to eachother without animosity. The hug at the end of their GCAC scene was quite awkward, though.

Who's the daddy of Sharon Newman / Abbott's baby? Is everyone hoping it'll be Nick? Yesterday (May 28, 2009), Nick said he wanted her back but after that scene with her & Jack, what'll she say? How's Chloe going to react if she finds out Billy is a contender? Is it going to be a long 3 weeks to wait for the test?

How on earth is Adam getting away with all this? Is Victor going to catch him? Is JT going to figure it out? Anxious for this storyline to come to a head but knowing Chris Engen has quit the show tells me they're only going to make it WORSE!

Potential Spoilers?

-I have a suspicion Malcolm is going to be Devon's daddy. With how they're bringing this storyline forward I'm wondering who it'll be but I've heard that Malcolm might come back to the show this summer and wouldn't that be quite a storyline? If not, it'll be interesting to see which new character will be his Dad.

-I read on a soap board that they're going to make Summer Newman about 7 years old this summer. Wondering if it's a permanent thing or just a dream sequence.

Chris Engen who plays Adam Wilson (aka Victor Newman Jr) has apparently quit the show due to the direction the writers are taking his character in. No wonder! Today's show (May 27 Y&R Canada) was absolutely ridiculous. That the Adam character would be brazen enough to sneak into her hospital room without as much as a disguise? What on earth could he have against the Ashley character to make him go off like this when she's the only person who has been totally decent to him. Sheesh! I'm not shocked that he's not interested in a love scene with his lawyer! (That's the rumour as to why he leaves).

Man, she sure looks like quite the tart at the moment, doesn't she? Some heart breaking scenes in the last few days with grieving and pain with the various characters. I don't know how it'll play out but I'm still routing for Nick & Sharon.

I liked this couple but they've been making me gag, especially now that they're planning to turn Cane into a bad guy or something. It'll be interesting to see how Langley / Phillip III fits in...If the recent storylines are any clue, I'm not looking forward to it!

Cane and Phillip Stunner Spoiler

Spoiler alert, spoiler alert! This was quite the stunner today. I had to rewind the DVR to see Thom Beirdz (aka the dead Phillip Chancellor III) as Cane's secret phone call (aka the call that made him look like a scam artist that was supposedly forgotten.)

Lane Wedding
After marrying Lily, Cane remembers the "We're In" phone call and then they pan to the other end of the phone and reveal the Dead Phillip Chancellor and the fact that they need to be 'patient')

Are we supposed to be dumb enough to believe this elaborate backpeddaling? How much are we supposed to just 'let go' as the storylines shuffle and re-shuffle? I'm sure you're going to be hearing a lot from me on this subject as they try to unravel this one?

First factor (beyond the dead body and all the years)
-The DNA test with Chloe's baby demonstrating that Cane and Billy must come from the same gene pool

There are more factors...I just know it but my head hurts just trying to piece together all the other parts of the puzzle that don't fit!

Too Many Y and R Weddings?

Last week when I watched the episode of Greys Anatomy where Alex & Izzy got married, it dawned on me that I have watched way too many Y&R weddings.

When they said, "By the power vested in me by the state of....." I think I did a double take because they didn't say "The state of Wisconsin".

Nikki & Paul: I'm almost sure that the engagement ring is a recycle. It looks like something Nikki has worn in the past.

Lily & Cane: They're really boring these days. Hope they don't become as un-exciting as JT & Victoria. There doesn't seem to be any fire with them. It's just kind of sappy sweet instead of 'HOT'.

Kay & Murph: LOVE these two! I love how he handles Jill and how things went down with the governor. But, if Kay had been friends with the Gov before he became a gov, why didn't she have the familiarity of calling him by his first name?

Adam's birthday party was more than just a little bit awkward, wasn't it? Too bad about Rafe coming 'out'. I say that because he and Colleen would've made a cute couple. But then I also say that every single girl needs a gay male friend, too! I guess Y&R felt they had to cover the gay demographic.

Anyway, I'm getting a bit bored with the Kevin storyline. He's lost it a little too often. First he loses it with Colleen. Then he gets normal. Then he threatens to kill Lauren and himself. Then he gets normal. Now he's gone all looney again. I am not a fan of meds but think that if he does get normal again,(which of course he will, knowing this show!) they need to look at long term anti-psychotic meds already!!

I don't really remember much about the Mary Jo storyline so I looked her up and recognised her sort of. That must've been during a time where I wasn't watching due to work, before the lovely invention of DVR's.

The End of the Road for Karen and Neil

-So Karen (Nia Peeples) left Neil today. Too bad they didn't give her a stronger character. I'm soooo glad she didn't go nutso (like so many other characters these days) and try to run away with the child or something like that. Was it just me or did you think it was pretty inappropriate for someone (Devon / Tyra / Ana) to walk in seeing a couple in an argument and come in and close the door? Most people would've ducked out and left them to it. Sheesh!

-So Cane finally got an 'aha' moment at the courthouse. It was about time he dropped the custody battle. Ahem, get YOUR OWN kid. Sometimes I think Billy & Chloe make a good couple. So far I don't see a spark with him and the new Mac.

-Could Jack really be that arrogant to believe that he's going to get away with that whole 'set up Victor for Walter's murder' thing with he & Adam (Victor jr)? Puh-lease!

My New Young and the Restless Blog

I was born in 1972 and have been watching the Y&R for as long as I can remember. There were several years where I didn't watch it due to working while it was on but for the most part, I'd say I could definitely be a contender for Y&R trivia.

I remember when it was only on for 30 minutes. I also remember when Vanessa hurled herself off the balcony and Victor kept someone a prisoner in the basement at the ranch. I think it's hilarious and I laugh at the fact that the vast majority of today's characters that we love were once the bad guys (Michael, Phyllis, Kevin, Victor, who else?). I also love how they do things in odd places just to maximise the use of their new sets. I definitely think that they make the DNA testing industry seem very unreliable, don't you think?

I'm a freelance writer and blogger and have been pondering creating a Y&R blog for fun for a while. My husband and I watch the Young and the Restless from Canada daily so we get to see things before the US does. We also sit and critique the show as much as the two old guys in the balcony on the Muppet Show critique poor Kermie. But that being said, we are furious when the show gets preempted.

This blog will be my little Y&R soapbox so I can start discussions about what I love, what I hate, and what I'd love to see happen.
